Why? American Artist And Volunteer Dahlia Yehia Brutally Beaten To Death In Nepal

An American woman, Dahlia Yehia, volunteering in Nepal has been murdered. The 25-year-old former art teacher, travelled to Nepal on July 20th to give assistance with the devasting aftermath of the earthquake that struck in April.

Her loved ones have described her as having a free spirit and an artistic nature. She received a bachelor of fine arts in painting from Kalamazoo College in Michigan and studied abroad in Ecuador.

She continued to keep in touch with family and friends back home through social media. Her loved ones become frantic when she did not respond to a WhatsApp message on August 6th.

Her panicked family contacted the US embassy in Nepal, and a full investigation was launched into her disappearance.

Yehia was staying in the home of a teacher, Narayan Paudel, whom she found via Couchsurfing, a website that connects local hosts with travellers, the Voice of America reported.

The man confessed to local police to beating Yehia to death, placing her body into a sack before dumping her into the Seti River.

Paudel tried killing himself by jumping out of a police station window following his arrest on September 4th.

On the Facebook page “Find Dahlia,” her family said they received word from the U.S. Embassy that Dahlia had died. “We are devastated by this senseless loss of a beautiful life. For those who haven’t had the joy of spending time with Dahlia, know that she is a giver, lover, and humanitarian, who devoted her life to others less fortunate both domestic and abroad,” the page reads.

Yehia’s body has not be recovered. And authorities have not offered a motive for the murder.
