Even Fox News Is Now Telling Donald Trump To Pump The Brakes And Cool The Rhetoric

Monday was another splashy day in the headlines for Republican Presidential candidate and wet dream of comedy writers everywhere Donald Trump. The Donald released a lengthy, rambling, bombastic statement Monday afternoon in which he not only defended his comments about Mexican immigrants, but he elaborated on them. In the press release, Trump highlighted that he truly believes that the Mexican government is purposely sending criminals, rapists and drug cartels over the United States border, and that other countries’ governments are doing the same thing. He also pointed out that Mexico is infecting America with diseases as they are “pouring over the border.”

Besides the statement, where Trump claimed he’d be “the best jobs President that God created,” it was also revealed on Monday that the real estate mogul retweeted an inflammatory comment from one of his fans about fellow GOP candidate Jeb Bush. The tweet stated that Jeb Bush has to support Mexican illegals because of his wife. Trump deleted the comment Sunday night and blamed it on a staffer. However, the damage from this latest incident, combined with his latest press release and more businesses distancing themselves from him (ESPN is the latest to drop Donald), may be too much to overcome, even if Trump believes there is no such thing as bad publicity.

At this point, though, even the reliably pro-Trump crowd at Fox News is starting to break ranks, with many commentators, pundits and reporters speaking out against Trump’s tendency to not only spew purposely offensive rhetoric but to toss verbal firebombs at other GOPers. It is perhaps the flame wars he’s starting with other candidates that is finally getting Fox to realize that having Trump in the primary race for the long haul may make things exciting, but will also cause untold damage on the Republican Party well ahead of the general election.

Over the weekend, longtime Trump defender Eric Bolling used his weekend show to have a panel discussion about Donald and his chances in the field. Trump had just spent the previous evening using his Twitter account to latch onto the senseless murder of a San Francisco woman for political gain. While Bolling constantly pumped up The Donald, the other guests all shit on him, with one panelist stating that Trump isn’t going to be able to negotiate with Mexico since he can’t even deal with Macy’s.

On Monday, two of the most respected voices at Fox, Brit Hume and Charles Krauthammer, both took to the air to deliver scathing remarks on Trump and his latest actions. Hume took Trump to task for the way he has spoken about his fellow Republican candidates, pointing out that a legit hopeful wouldn’t attempt to harm all of his other competitors, especially since he’d eventually want some of those supporters on his side down the road.

Krauthammer also appeared on Special Report with Bret Baier and was even more to the point, labeling Trump a “rodeo clown” who is grabbing all the attention from one of the strongest GOP fields in recent memory. He stated that all Trump can do is talk tough and crap all over other countries, but that he is intellectually bankrupt, with everything boiling down to “barstool eruptions.” It should also be noted that Krauthammer has been critical of Trump in the past, specifically for the very type of behavior he has been exhibiting since announcing his candidacy last month.

Sure, Trump still has many fans over at Fox, specifically Bill O’Reilly, who spent time on his broadcast Monday night lauding himFox & Friends idiotic trio, Bolling, and a number of contributors. However, the fact that a number of veteran voices are speaking up against Trump and the damage he is sure to do to the GOP if he continues unchecked should be a sign that Trump’s days in the primary may be numbered. They had their fun basking in his bigotry. But they cannot truly afford to go all-in with him. And that reality is going to set in sooner rather than later.
