Chris Christie Tells CNN That Public School Teachers Deserve A Punch In The Face
During an appearance Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, Republican Presidential candidate and highly unpopular New Jersey Governor Chris Christie stated unequivocally that the national teachers union deserves a punch in the face. This was in response to a question from host Jake Tapper regarding a previous quote from Christie where he had stated that he preferred to punch bullies in the face. Apparently, in Christie’s view, public school teachers are the bullies and the tough-talking governor who advocates violence against them is the real victim who is just standing up for his constituency.
Christie, whose approval rating in New Jersey stands at 30%, told Tapper that the reason he wants to punch the union in the face is because they are “the single most destructive force in public education in America.” He also is upset that the union wants to increase its membership and get better pay for its members. (Who would have fucking thought?)
From the show’s transcript:
TAPPER: On a national level, who deserves a punch in the face?
CHRISTIE: Oh, the national teachers union, whose already endorsed Hillary Clinton 16 – 17 months before the election.
TAPPER: Why?
CHRISTIE: Because they’re not for education for our children, they’re for greater membership, greater benefits, greater pay for their members. And they are the single most destructive force in public education in America. I’ve been saying that since 2009. I’ve got the scars to show it, but I’m never going to stop saying it because they never change their stripes.
Yeah, that’s the ticket for building a national platform that will attract voters far and wide. Declare a war on school teachers and claim that they are overpaid. That won’t make you look like a loudmouthed bully picking on those less powerful than you. Maybe you can kick a few puppies on the campaign trail and push little old ladies out of wheelchairs.
