NBC’s Savannah Guthrie Presses ‘Crazy Uncle’ Trump on Conspiracy Tweets

NBC’s Savannah Guthrie quizzed President Donald Trump on his retweeting of conspiracy theories during a town hall event on the network on Thursday night. Trump has shared tweets alleging that the raid that killed Osama Bin laden was faked and that former President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden engaged in a cover up.

“That was a retweet. That was an opinion of somebody and that was a retweet. I’ll put it out there. People can decide for themselves. I don’t take a position,” Trump told Guthrie.

“You’re the president,” Guthrie said. “You’re not someone’s crazy uncle who can retweet whatever.”

The completely baseless conspiracy about Bin Laden and Navy SEAL Team Six is linked to believers in the QAnon conspiracy – a group which thinks the president is secretly fighting a ‘Deep State’ and an international cabal of Satanic pedophiles.

Trump said the conspiracy tweet was “a retweet. I do a lot of retweets. And frankly, because the media is so fake and so corrupt, if I didn’t have social media … I wouldn’t be able to get the word out.”

Guthrie pressed him on QAnon. He said he didn’t know much about them but they’re “very much against pedophilia.” She went on to point out the false beliefs professed by QAnon fans.

“I just don’t know about QAnon,” Trump said.

“You do know,” Guthrie replied.

“Haha, so cute,” the president said.
