Jill Biden Suggests Texas Is in Play for Democrats in November

Dr. Jill Biden suggested on Tuesday that her husband, former Vice President Joe Biden, could win Texas on November 3. The former Second Lady was visiting El Paso as early voting got under way in the state with high turnout and some difficulties.

“For the first time in a long time, winning Texas is possible,” Biden said at the University of Texas.

“Not just for Joe, but for the Senate and the state House as well. And if we win here, we are unstoppable,” she said.

Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke agreed. On Twitter Tuesday, he praised early voting and claimed Biden could win in the traditionally deep red state and in so doing guarantee an election victory on the night of November 3.

“If Texans continue to smash voting records, Joe Biden will win Texas & the election will be over ON ELECTION NIGHT. No waiting days (weeks?) to count votes in Pennsylvania. If you want to destroy any chance Trump has to win or steal this election, then focus on Texas,” he tweeted.

No Democratic presidential candidate has won in Texas since 1976 when Jimmy Carter swept to office on a wave of anger following the events of Watergate and Gerald Ford’s decision to pardon Richard Nixon. Carter was also governor of Georgia, another southern state.

Joe Biden remains unlikely to win in Texas, as polls have consistently shown President Donald Trump ahead. A Democratic victory in the ruby red state would indicate a potential landslide against the president.
