Former Pence Aide: Trump Suggested Coronavirus Could Be a ‘Good Thing’

A former aide to Vice President Mike Pence has claimed that President Donald Trump said Coronavirus might be a good thing because he wouldn’t have to shake hands with people. Olivia Troye was a homeland security adviser to Pence.

Troye spoke out against Trump in a video produced by Republican Voters Against Trump. She left the White House in July and worked with Pence on the response to the Coronavirus pandemic,.

“Towards the middle of February, we knew it wasn’t a matter of if COVID would become a big pandemic here, it was a matter of when,” Troye said. “But the President didn’t want to hear that, because his biggest concern was that we were in an election year, and how was this going to affect what he considered to be his record of success?”

Troye claims Trump said: “Maybe this COVID thing is a good thing. I don’t like shaking hands with people. I don’t have to shake hands with these disgusting people.”

“Those disgusting people are the same people that he claims to care about. These are the people still going to his rallies today who have complete faith in who he is,” Troye said.

“The truth is he doesn’t actually care about anyone else but himself,” she said.

The White House has dismissed Troye as a ‘disgruntled’ former employee – a criticism the administration has made of any former official who speaks out against President Trump. Troye is a lifelong Republican who said she ‘couldn’t look herself in the mirror’ because of Trump’s failure to handle the crisis.

Troye said she’ll be voting for former Vice President Joe Biden in November.
