Trump Claims Again That Coronavirus Will ‘Just Disappear’ as Deaths Near 130,000

President Donald Trump has once again claimed that Covid-19 could just disappear at some point. Though he was widely mocked for making the same statement early on in the pandemic, he repeated the idea on Wednesday during an interview with Fox Business.

“We’re heading back in a very strong fashion, with a V. And I think we’re going to be very good with the Coronavirus. I think at some point that’s going to sort of just disappear, I hope,” the President said.

Deaths from the virus are approaching 130,000 in the United States and there is potential for many more as spikes in the disease have been reported in several states that had previously been less affected. Republican governors who were reluctant to take public safety steps have changed tack.

Trump made exactly the same claim about Covid-19 on 27 February.

“It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear,” he said.

Then on 10 March, the President said: “And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci and other public health experts are warning that the worst could be yet to come and that very serious measures must be taken to avoid a disastrous second wave. Trump has been widely criticized for his reaction to the pandemic.
