Huge Majority of UK Voters See Biden as Better Ally and Oppose Trump’s Reelection

Clear majorities of voters in the United Kingdom would prefer Joe Biden to become president of the U.S. and believe he would be a better ally for their country. Newsweek conducted a poll of British people and found that they prefer Biden in overwhelming numbers.

The Redfield & Wilson Strategies poll asked Britons if they would vote for Trump or Biden. Just 15% said they would support Trump, with 51% opting for Biden. Even among the country’s Conservative Party voters, just 26% said they would vote for Trump.

Biden was the clear favorite for voters of the opposition Labour Party – 63% would vote for the Democrat.

Most British voters also said Biden would make a better ally than Trump. Forty-six percent of respondents said Biden was preferable while just 20% said Trump would be a better ally. This is an indictment of Trump’s handling of the ‘Special Relationship’.

The U.S. and UK have long maintained a political and military alliance with presidents making a fuss about the UK and its prime ministers. The feeling is more than mutual – British politicians tend to overestimate their influence with U.S. administrations.

The poll numbers show Trump doesn’t enjoy widespread support in the UK despite his vocal support for Brexit and praise of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his predecessor, Theresa May.
