Fox’s Brian Kilmeade Slams Universal Basic Income: Giving Money We Don’t Have to People Who Do Nothing

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi may have flirted with the idea of guaranteed income on Monday but Fox News was quick to react and dismiss the idea out of hand. Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade waved the concept away with apparent disgust on Tuesday during a brief segment about Pelosi’s comments.

“Let’s see what works. What is operational and what needs other attention, others have suggested a minimum income for a guaranteed income for people. Is that worthy of attention now? Perhaps so,” the Speaker told MSNBC.

“Finally. Giving money that we don’t have to people who don’t work or do anything,” Kilmeade scoffed.

“Andrew Yang had that brilliant idea and got no support in the primaries but let’s try it with a big country. Meanwhile his program will cost $2.4 trillion a year.”

“Hopefully that goes nowhere,” Kilmeade said.

Kilmeade’s comments falsely conflate Pelosi’s suggestion to look into the issue with Yang’s particular plan. He also ignores the fact that millions of Americans have filed for unemployment in recent weeks – up to as many as 26.5 million – due to Coronavirus.

This denunciation of universal basic income comes on the same day that Fox’s Griff Jenkins told the morning show that the payment protection package (PPP) had been rolled out quickly and effectively. In many instances, this was not the case.
