Trump Has Made 50 False Claims at Coronavirus Briefings, CNN Says

President Donald Trump has made at least 50 ‘false or misleading claims’ at his daily Coronavirus press briefings, according to a new CNN report. The network counted the President’s lies at his live briefings, which have taken place since the pandemic hit the U.S.

“By CNN’s rough estimate, over the past three weeks Trump has made at least 50 false or misleading claims at these briefings, which in many ways have become a substitute for the political rallies he can no longer hold due to the coronavirus outbreak,” the report says.

In particular, the story highlights Trump’s false statements about voter fraud. He made these comments just yesterday as controversy swirls about an election in Wisconsin. Republicans in the state successfully argued before the Supreme Court that in-person voting should take place and many mail-in ballots should be thrown out.

“There’s a lot of fraudulent voting going on in this country,” Trump asserted without evidence. The CNN fact check pointed out that this is simply not the case, citing multiple studies.

It’s hardly surprising that Trump is opposing vote-by-mail. He recently said such a measure would be harmful to Republicans’ electoral chances – meaning his own reelection. As the pandemic continues and the November election nears, Trump is likely to ramp up his attacks on mail-in ballots and continue to spread disinformation.
