Joe Scarborough: ‘We’d All Have a Big Laugh’ About Trump but Now He Thinks He’s Louis XIV

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough recalled on Wednesday how his show had hosted Donald Trump and that he’d been treated like a joke. Speaking on Morning Joe, a show that frequently gave Trump a platform, Scarborough seemed to lament how things had changed.

Scarborough and regular Willie Geist were discussing Rod Blagojevich (Blago).

” Yeah, we joked about Blago and the terrible — I’m talking about a decade ago,” Scarborough said.

“We joked about Donald Trump back in like 2010, 2011. We called him America’s Abraham Lincoln and we would all have a big laugh about it because he’d come on and give his opinions and we’d like all laugh, thinking how funny that was because, of course, he was the antithesis of America’s Abraham Lincoln even then.”

“And here we have now obviously, Mika, this President who thinks that the state — he is the state and the state is him. It’s straight out of Louis XIV and it’s disturbing.”

Louis XIV was a famous king of France known for his long reign and autocratic tendencies. He is known for claiming that he was the state.

“When I took over the military, when I took over America, when I took over and became the chief law enforcement officer of America,” he said, paraphrasing Trump.
