Fmr. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch Warns of ‘Amoral’ U.S. Foreign Policy

Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch has warned about the country adopting an ‘amoral’ foreign policy in her first public statement since she ended her diplomatic career two weeks ago. Yovanovitch was a key witness in the House impeachment hearings.

“We need to be principled, consistent and trustworthy,” Yovanovitch said at Georgetown University.

“To be blunt, an amoral, keep-them-guessing foreign policy that substitutes threats, fear and confusion for trust cannot work over the long haul.”

“At some point, the once unthinkable will become the inevitable – that our allies who have as much right to act in their own self interest as we do, will seek out more reliable partners partners whose interests might not align well with ours.”

Yovanovitch said the State Department was ‘in trouble’ and it lacked ‘policy vision’ and ‘moral clarity’.

The former ambassador is no longer in a position to be affected by President Donald Trump’s wrath, unlike Lt. Col Alexander Vindman and his brother, who have suffered consequences for the latter’s testimony before the House Intelligence Committee.
