Fox’s Judge Nap Clashes with Pete Hegseth on Bolton Testimony: Impeachment Trial ‘Is a Search for the Truth’

Fox News Judicial Analyst Andrew Napolitano had an on air argument with the network’s Pete Hegseth on Tuesday. Napolitano argued that former National Security Advisor John Bolton had to testify in the Senate impeachment trial, while Hegseth said Republicans could refuse to call him.

Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy asked what had changed since Bolton said he wouldn’t testify before the House without a subpoena. His answer didn’t please Hegseth.

“What has changed is it will be nearly impossible for Republicans not to allow him to testify. This is the guy who was at the heartbeat of the President’s decision,” Napolitano said.

“Why, though?” Hegseth demanded.

“Why is it nearly impossible?” Hegseth asked. “If House Democrats refused to do any number of things because they control the process. Why would Republicans be compelled in this case?”

Napolitano explained that there would be political blow back if prosecutors in the impeachment case called Bolton and Senate Republicans overruled them. When faced with comments from the other hosts, Napolitano tried to explain why the GOP wouldn’t want to overrule the Chief Justice, who will preside over the trial.

“The prosecutors say, we call John Bolton. The Chief Justice says, Mr Bolton and then the Republicans are gonna overrule the Chief Justice because they’re afraid of what John Bolton would say?” Napolitano said. “That would cause tremendous blow back.”

“They have a majority. They could have called him if they wanted to,” Hegseth said, likely referring to Democrats in the House.

“But this is a search for the truth and if John Bolton has information…” Napolitano said.

“Democrats in the House were searching for the truth?” Hegseth said mockingly.

“No, the trial is the search for the truth,” Napolitano said.
