Fox & Friends Downplay Hurricane Dorian To Deny Climate Change: ‘Keep This In Perspective’

As Hurricane Dorian bears down on Florida, Fox & Friends took some time out from their coverage of the storm to deny climate change and attack Democrats who say climate change is responsible for the intensity of recent hurricanes.

While covering the hurricane on Wednesday morning, the Fox News hosts brought up tweets from Democratic Representative Alexendria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders highlighting the link between climate change and the hurricane, which has been widely reported on.

“And keep in mind, she is one of the people who has supported the Green New Deal,” co-host Steve Doocy said ominously.

The hosts also disagreed with Sanders, who compared the fossil fuel industry to the tobacco industry.

“Hurricanes have been happening since the beginning of the atmosphere, according to Janice Dean,” co-host Ainsley Earhardt said. “She says that this is caused by an area of low pressure.”

“By the way, so, Bernie Sanders, after making that statement, got on his private jet and went to his next event,” co-host Brian Kilmeade said.

Kilmeade then went on to quote from meteorologist and climate change denier Roy Spencer. He had intended to show a clip of Spencer speaking on Fox News, but it wasn’t available.

“He said listen, as bad as this is, he says just keep this in perspective,” Kilmeade said. “He says there are all kinds of stats out there. Let’s look long-term. It’s called climate. Since 1900, of all the hurricanes that have hit Florida, there has been no long-term trend in either their intensity or in the number of major hurricanes that have hit Florida.”

“So, what Bernie Sanders and AOC is doing telling everybody who pumping oil for a living, who is transporting gas for a living, who is working in the natural gas or oil industry, you are the problem, you are the nicotine in today’s society. It’s real nice. Knowing that it’s actually fueling, pun intended, our entire economy.”
