Jesse Watters Knows That Donald Trump Is the Real Victim of Donald Trump’s Racist Rhetoric

Jesse Watters identified the real person at risk in Donald Trump’s continuing racist attacks against the Hispanic immigrants he says are “invading” America, and obviously that person is Donald Trump.

Watters made the comments with no apparent sense of irony during a spirited discussion with Donna Brazille during Wednesday’s episode of The Five on Fox.

The conservative commentator had spent a few minutes blaming the media for smearing Trump and other Republicans as white supremacists:

“There are people that donated to President Trump that also donated to Democrats. There are blacks and Hispanics donating to President Trump. There were people that voted for Obama and then voted for Donald Trump and donated to him, and they are all racists? And they’re all white supremacists? It’s sad and sick. It’s a political ploy.”

Brazille jumped in to point out, quite sensibly, that it would behoove Trump to be more careful with his offensive language that seems to imply people of color do not belong in America and should “go back” where they came from. After all, it is the people of color who are being targeted: by America’s immigration authorities, by mass shooters who think they are “defending” the country from an invasion of Hispanics, and so on.

Brazille made the point explicit, mentioning that people who are here legally still are having a target “painted on their backs” by Trump’s rhetoric: “They’re the ones being targeted.”

“Donald Trump is being targeted!” Watters shot back.

Donald Trump is the most visible figure in the country and, as president, sets a moral tone for the country. When that moral tone pits different groups against each other and puts citizens in danger, as his does over and over, he is going to be “targeted” for criticism.

And if he’s being targeted physically, he’s got a lot of Secret Service agents around him. The people in Walmart, the Hispanics Trump sent his followers after with his incendiary and racist rhetoric, were not so fortunate.
