Rick Santorum Smacked Down When He Claims President Trump Is Responsible for Low Black Unemployment

The conversation got a little heated on Monday’s edition of The Lead when Rick Santorum tried to claim without evidence that President Trump has done “a lot” for the nation’s African-American community.

Santorum got immediate pushback from Andrew Gillum, the African-American former mayor of Tallahassee, Florida. Gillum explained that the rise in wages for African-Americans and Hispanics during the Trump administration is just the continuation of a long-term trend that began early in Barack Obama’s presidency.

Though he did not bring it to the show, Gillum’s statement has the benefit of having evidence to back up his assertion:

Santorum became riled up, complaining about Democrats blaming George W. Bush for poor economic conditions early in Obama’s tenure even though the fact Obama inherited an economy deep in the throes of a crisis is indisputably true. Santorum also was mad that anyone dared suggest that the economic gains of the last two years are the work of anyone but Donald Trump.
