Trump Falsely Warns Turning Point USA Crowd That ‘Illegals’ Will Steal Election in Swing States

President Trump spent a chunk of Tuesday spreading conspiracy theories about undocumented immigrants illegally voting to a crowd of supporters at a Turning Point USA event.

The president, who has been convinced since the beginning of his administration that “illegals” voting in California swung the state to his 2016 opponent, Hillary Clinton. Never mind the complete lack of evidence of this claim, or the fact that he lost the state by some four million votes.

Trump spun a scenario for the TPUSA crowd that sounded like something out of a Dave Barry novel:

“And then those illegals get out and vote. Because they vote anyway. Don’t kid yourself. Those numbers in California and numerous other states, they’re rigged. You got people voting that shouldn’t be voting. They vote many times, not just twice, not just three times…It’s like a circle. They come back, they put a new hat on, they come back, they put a new shirt on. And in many cases they don’t even do that. You know what’s going on, it’s a rigged deal.”

The commission the president put together in 2017 to investigate his claims of voting fraud disbanded after just a few months when it could find zero evidence that any of this or any other widespread, systemic fraud occurred.

Still, this is a good preview of the line Trump will likely take if he loses the 2020 election. And a good preview of what he and his surrogates will be telling the GOP base in the weeks leading up to the election, just to keep them ginned up.
