Trump Now Accusing Ilhan Omar, Without Evidence, of Hating Jews

President Trump accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of hating Jewish people during an unhinged rant at the White House on Monday.

The president was asked by a reporter to clarify his weekend tweets in which he suggested that four progressive congresswomen of color should go back to where they came from if they don’t love America. Trump responded with this:

“They are very unhappy. I’m watching them, all they do is complain. All I’m saying is if they want to leave, they can leave, John. They can leave. I look at the one, I look at Omar. I don’t know, I never met her. I hear the way she talks about al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda has killed many Americans. She said, ‘You can hold your chest out.’…If they don’t like it here, they can leave. I don’t know who’s going to miss them, but I guess some people will.”

Speaking of Omar, who immigrated to the United States from Somalia as a girl, he said,

“When I hear the statements that they’ve made — and in one case you have somebody who comes from Somalia, which is a failed government, a failed state, who left Somalia, who ultimately came here, and now is a congresswoman, who’s never happy. Says horrible things about Israel, hates Israel, hates Jews. It’s very simple.”

Needless to say, there is no evidence that Ilhan Omar “hates Jews.” She has some policy preferences regarding the Israeli-Palestinian situation that are significantly different from Trump’s, but big deal, so do a great number of people. Including–and this would probably shock Trump–the majority of American Jews.
