Trump’s Much-Hyped ABC Interview Tanks In Ratings, Can’t Match ‘Celebrity Family Feud’

Considering how obsessed President Trump is with ratings and polls, this is going to sting.

Despite ABC spending days hyping ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos’ interview with the president, and the amount of blockbuster news generated by the teaser excerpts, the network’s hourlong primetime special on Sunday failed to deliver viewers.

According to Nielsen, President Trump – 30 Hours managed to draw only 3.91 million total viewers, placing third in its 9 PM broadcast time slot.

In comparison, Fox’s airing of the final round of the US Open delivered 7.29 million viewers overall during its final three hours and CBS’s second hour of 60 Minutes pulled in a total audience of 4.67 million.

Perhaps even more embarrassing is the fact that the previous week, ABC pulled in over two million more viewers in the same time slot with the premiere of game show Celebrity Family Feud, which snagged a total viewership of 6.1 million. Furthermore, this past Sunday, Trump was barely able to improve on his lead-in, a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos which drew 3.5 million total viewers.

If there was a silver lining for the network and president is in the demographic ratings. While placing third in total viewers, the Trump interview was able to best 60 Minutes by pulling in a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and a 0.9 in the 25-54 demo.
