Trump’s Re-Election Campaign Has Raised $30 Million So Far This Year

President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign will report it has raised $30 million in the first quarter of 2019, CNN reports. This gives Trump a significant head start on the leading Democratic presidential hopefuls, though many expected his fundraising numbers to be good.

Trump has raised almost as much as the two leading Democrats combined. Senator Bernie Sanders has raised $18.2 million, while Senator Kamala Harris raised $12 million in the same period. All these fundraising number are impressive, but Sanders and Harris are not yet their party’s candidate.

In a crowded field, 10 Democrats are competing for campaign funds, with more set to enter the race. Democratic candidates have already raised $79.6 million altogether, more than Democrats raised for the same period in 2016. Reports suggest that some donors are holding off until former Vice President Joe Biden enters the race.

Trump is ahead of the curve, however. His re-election campaign already has a war chest of $40.8 million, while Sanders currently has $28 million in the bank. An incumbent president rarely has difficulty raising funds for re-election.

However, the 2020 presidential campaign is at an early stage. Not all the prospective Democratic candidates have officially announced and it will be months before the party picks a candidate. Once united behind presidential and vice presidential nominees, the real fundraising battle will begin.
