Fox News Guest: Mick Jagger Having Surgery In New York Proves US Has Great Access To Healthcare

Mick Jagger’s upcoming surgery proves that the United States has great access to healthcare, according to Fox News Medical Contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier. Speaking on Fox & Friends Thursday morning, Saphier claimed that Jagger’s use of a US medical facility showed that Democratic criticisms of healthcare were wrong.

In a segment entitled Healthcare Fact vs. Fiction, Saphier was invited to dispute Senator Bernie Sanders’ claim that President Donald Trump’s healthcare plan would raise costs and leave many without coverage, leading to deaths. Naturally, she ruled Sanders’ claims fiction.

“This is fiction. This is a very bombastic claim that he’s making right and he’s actually combining two things,” Saphier said. “First of all, if Trump gets his way, he’ll actually be decreasing healthcare costs. Everything the Trump administration is working towards right now is a decrease cost. Bernie Sanders is talking about, he wants to increase access to everyone.”

“You know what? You can’t increase access without decreasing costs. Because if you do that you’re going to get exactly what he’s calling for in his Medicare for all plan, which is the Canadians’ version on steroids. You’re going to get rationed care.”

“So we can’t have that. Look what’s going on, you have 50 to 75,000 Canadians every year coming to the US for their treatment. Where is Mick Jagger getting his heart surgery from this week? New York City. And he’s not a US citizen. Actually, I don’t think he is. But he’ s not here full time.”

Saphier’s claim that Canadians use the US healthcare system is disingenuous. Some Canadians have elective procedures in the US but most couldn’t afford healthcare in the US.

“So, people come to the United States because we have great access to care. Donald Trump is one to decrease the cost of care. If you decrease cost you are therefore going to increase access to care. Just because he is not jumping on board the single payer plan doesn’t mean people are being stripped from their healthcare coverage.”

Saphier failed to point out that nobody with as much money as Jagger ever has difficulty accessing healthcare or that most Canadians are happy with their healthcare system. There is no ‘rationing’.
