Trump Suggests Obama Framed Him, Calls Mueller Report ‘Great’

Speaking to reporters as he headed into a luncheon with GOP senators on Tuesday, President Trump applauded the report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller while also suggesting that his predecessor had framed him with a Russian collusion narrative during the 2016 election.

Parroting his previous statements on Attorney General William Barr’s summary of the report that finds that no members of the Trump campaign conspired with Russia in its interference during the presidential election, the president said it was a “ridiculous witch hunt where it was proven very strongly no collusion, no obstruction, no nothing.”

It should be noted that while Barr’s letter noted the report did not find collusion between the campaign and the Russian government, Mueller was quoted in the letter as saying “while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”

Asked about the “people who spawned the investigation into your campaign” and how high he thinks the investigation went, Trump said it “went very high up” before adding that this should “never happen to a president again,” seemingly indicating that he wants to outlaw special prosecutors and counsels. He was then asked whether he thinks it went all the way up to the West Wing during the Obama administration.

“I don’t want to say that, but I think you know the answer,” Trump replied.

The president also faced questions about his thoughts on the Mueller report, a report he still hasn’t read.

“The Mueller report was great,” he bellowed. “The Mueller report could not have been better. It said no obstruction, no collusion, it could not have been better.”

This is a far cry from the countless times Trump has personally railed against the special counsel while labeling Mueller’s team the “13 Angry Democrats.”
