The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Reveals She ‘Came Very, Very Close’ to Dying From Pneumonia

If you are a regular viewer of The View, you’ve likely noticed that longtime host Whoopi Goldberg has been off the air for quite a while. Her colleagues have provided regular updates throughout, noting that the Oscar-winning actress was at home battling an illness and would hopefully be back on air in short order.

Well, it appears that Goldberg was far more sick than we were initially led to believe.

In a video message to viewers Friday morning, Goldberg revealed that she’d been battling pneumonia over the past few weeks and was very close to dying at one point.

“I am here, I am up and moving around, not as fast as I’d like to be, but I am okay,” she said. “I’m not dead.”

Noting that she had become septic during her bout with pneumonia, Goldberg explained that both her lungs had filled up with fluid.

“There was all kinds of stuff going on and, yes, I came very, very close to leaving the Earth,” she asserted. “Good news, I didn’t.”

Goldberg ended her video statement by thanking everyone for the well-wishes and telling her co-hosts that she can’t wait to get back to the table and talk all about her battle.
