Fox News Guest: Why Aren’t Kellyanne Conway And Sarah Sanders On The Cover Of Rolling Stone?

For International Women’s Day, Rolling Stone magazine is running a cover featuring four female, Democratic lawmakers: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representatives Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jahana Hayes, three of them women of color. Over at Fox News, this was painted as an attack on conservative women.

Lauren DeBellis Appel, former adviser to former Republican Senator Rick Santorum, told Fox New’s Jillian Mele that Rolling Stone had insulted half the women in the country by excluding Republicans from its cover. She also repeated debunked talking points about the Green New Deal.

Rolling Stone thinks these women are more models for women,” DeBellis Appel said. “First you have Ocasio-Cortez, who thinks that airplanes should be banned and we should all to Hawaii. You have Omar who can’t stop tripping over her Anti-Semitic remarks. You have Nancy Pelosi, who’s Speaker of the House, but the only vision that she has for the Democratic Party is endless investigation into the administration, searching for a crime and you have Hayes, who supports them all. These are not role models for women.”

Mele asked if Pelosi was now the leader of the socialist party and if it was bizarre that Pelosi was on a magazine cover with three members of her own caucus.

“It is kind of bizarre and she is associating herself with these women,” DeBellis Appel said. “The problem with this Rolling Stone cover and other publications like it is, right off the bat, it insults half of the women in this country because it ignores half of them and it ignores Republican women that have real accomplishments, people like Kellyanne Conway.”

“You know, she’s the first woman to successfully run a presidential campaign and you don’t hear about that. Had she run a Democratic presidential campaign, that’s all they would be talking about. Sarah Sanders. There are few women that could do the job she does and do it as well as she does. Marsha Blackburn in the House, she was one of the few women that came out and tried to call out the names of her colleagues, to release their names that were involved in the sexual-harassment hush fund scandal.”

“Ivanka Trump – you have her. She’s an entrepreneur and businesswoman and author in her own right. And the list goes on. People at Rolling Stone ignore the names of these women because they don’t fit the mold of what a woman should look like in their eyes.”

Fox News had a ready-made graphic of the four women DeBellis Appel mentioned, mainly because she had published an op-ed on this subject for the Fox News website two days before broadcast. It seems Fox was planning this particular International Women’s Day segment well in advance.
