Panel of Democratic Voters on CNN Literally Laughs at Idea of Joe Biden Running for President

The polls have him as one of the top candidates in the field. But a panel of Democratic voters interviewed on CNN’s New Day on Tuesday morning was unreceptive to a Joe Biden presidential bid.

Alisyn Camerota interviewed the six Democratic voters from Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania to get a sense of what they are looking for in a candidate who can take on Donald Trump in 2020. All seemed interested in Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.

But when Camerota asked how many of them want to see Biden get in to the race, no one raised a hand. One person audibly snickered.

This led Camerota to ask, “What is happening?”

One panelist responded that Biden’s “time is done.” Another complained that Biden comes from the “good old boy politics of the past.” A third said that Biden does not represent “that new thing” that he thinks the Democratic Party needs.

These were not younger voters, either. But none was over 65, and Biden may appeal more to older voters. The people on the panel were also more active in Democratic politics. Less active voters, who are paying little to no attention to the election with the primaries still a year away, might be more interested in a candidate who is a bit of a throwback and not beholden to the activist left that has come to dominate media coverage and grabbed the party’s attention. And of course the polls still have the former vice-president as a frontrunner.

Still, a voter literally laughing on national televison at the idea of a Biden campaign should be food for thought in a certain Delaware household.
