Covington Student’s Lawyer Thanks Trump For Support, Claims WaPo Lawsuit ‘Is Not Political’

The lead attorney in the $250 million lawsuit filed by the family of Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann took to Twitter Wednesday morning to offer thank to President Trump for offering his support. The lawyer, meanwhile, insisted that the suit itself isn’t political.

The day after the parents of Sandmann filed the defamation suit against the Washington Post, accusing the paper of targeting and bullying their son in a concerted effort to embarrass the president, Trump tweeted out a quote from the filing while cheering on Sandmann.

“Go get them Nick. Fake News!” Trump wrote.

Shortly after the president’s tweet went up, lead attorney L. Lin Wood responded to POTUS with a tweet of his own.

“Nick Sandmann’s lawsuit against Washington Post is not political,” he said. “But the bias of Post against @realDonaldTrump is a provable fact that is relevant to the litigation. We appreciate the President’s support. As should everyone who values our children & their reputations & safety.”

The suit, meanwhile, claims that the Post’s reporting of last month’s D.C. interaction between Sandmann and Native American activist Nathan Phillips was a “modern-day form of McCarthyism” and helped mobilize a “social media mob of bullies which attacked, vilified, and threatened Nicholas Sandmann, an innocent secondary school child.”

Anyway, not sure how helpful it will be for the Sandmanns’ lawyer to endorse the president cheering on a lawsuit that he claims is not political on their end.
