Michelle Malkin: Howard Schultz Will Be Eaten Alive By Progressive Democrats

Fox News has struggled to cover billionaire Howard Schultz’s potential presidential bid in recent days. Fox hosts have defended Schultz from left-wing attacks but also criticized him for his liberal positions and former support for the Democrats, often in the same segment

This difficulty was highlighted Thursday morning when Fox & Friends hosted conservative commentator Michelle Malkin. The thrust of Fox & Friends‘ Schultz story was the criticism of his wealth, but Malkin’s comments showed the contradictory nature of conservatives’ approach to Schultz.

“He’s pushing back on socialism and unaffordable programs that will never be implemented. He’ss actually doing the work of an analyst or a Republican but remaining a Democrat. How do you explain this backlash and this vilification?” host Brian Kilmeade asked.

“I wrote a whole book about it called Who Built That? several years ago, diagnosing the war on wealth and job creators – the wealth-shaming that is in the DNA of the mainstream Democrat party,” Malkin said, referring to the Democratic Party but using common conservative phrasing.

“And now we see Howard Schultz getting a rude awakening about that and unfortunately he is going to be eaten alive by the progressive wing of the Democratic Party which has become the center there,” she said.

“I have to say I have a little bit of Schadenfreude about it  becuase, of course, Howard Schultz has represented himself to be a progressive when it comes to demonizing conservatives, whether it’s his anti-gun position or even taking a lot of anti-business stances himself to pander to the left wing. So, it’s a strange, strange phenomenon and I have to say I somewhat enjoy it. Tthose of us who are defenders of capitalism have been attacked by this man himself and now is he getting a dose of his own medicine.”

“One thing is clear, he’s not a socialist,” Kilmeade added. “Clearly a capitalist,” Steve Doocy agreed.

The segment is part of Fox & Friends ongoing coverage of Schultz, who has not yet announced whether he’s running for president or not. It was accompanied by a graphic saying ‘Trouble Brewing’.
