Trump Apparently Believes Grocery Stores Will Give You Free Food If You Aren’t Getting Paid

We already knew that President Donald Trump believes that you need a government ID to purchase groceries. Did you also know that he thinks that if you don’t have any money, you can just go to your local store and they’ll give you free food?

Speaking to reporters after both Senate bills to end the month-long government shutdown were shot down, the president was asked to weigh in on Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s tone-deaf remarks about furloughed and unpaid federal workers and how he doesn’t understand why they are going to food banks for assistance.

Trump insisted that he hadn’t heard the statement but felt Ross perhaps “should have said it differently.” POTUS then riffed on what he thought Ross was trying to say.

“Local people know who they are, where they go for groceries and everything else,” Trump confidently stated. “I think what Wilbur was probably trying to say is that they will work along. I know banks are working along.”

He continued, “If you have mortgages, mortgagees, the folks collecting the interest and all of those things, they work along. That’s what happens in time like this. They know the people. They’ve been dealing with them for years and they work along.”

The president once again mentioned grocery stores before saying he was pretty sure that’s what Ross meant, adding that the billionaire administration figure “has done a great job.”

It didn’t take long for folks on Twitter to react to Trump’s remarks on grocery stores:
