CNN’s Kirsten Powers: ‘There’s Not That Much Difference’ Between Steve King And Trump

With House Republicans promising action to be taken against Rep. Steve King (R-IA) for his latest racist remarks and Democrats announcing plans to censure him, CNN political analyst Kirsten Powers said there was little difference between the controversial congressman and the current commander-in-chief.

Hours after President Donald Trump told reporters he was unaware that King had embraced white nationalism in an interview with the New York Times, CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin sarcastically noted that the president is up-to-date on the latest details of Jeff Bezos’ divorce but supposedly doesn’t know what’s going on with a prominent member of his own party.

“I’m sure he knows, Powers said.

The USA Today columnist went on to point out Trump’s history of brushing off racism and not condemning bigotry, especially when it came from his supporters.

“One of the questions we should all be asking is what’s the difference between him and Donald Trump,” Powers said, referencing King. “There’s not that much difference.”

She further stated that King has been like this for a long time and one could ask why the Republicans Party is just now deciding his xenophobic and racist views are a problem.

“Have they evolved or are they just under pressure?” Powers asked. “Because he’s been talking about, you know, undocumented immigrants like they’re animals. He talked about putting electrified fence on the border, saying this is how we control livestock. Comparing them to livestock. So this is a much bigger problem than just a few comments.”
