Tucker Carlson Blames Women Earning Higher Wages For ‘Men In Decline’: ‘We Know It’s True’

In the midst of an advertiser boycott for saying immigration make America “poorer and dirtier,” Fox News host Tucker Carlson returned to the air for the first time in nearly two weeks with a lengthy neo-populist screed that argued that men are in decline in America due largely to women suddenly making more money than men in many areas.

In a show-opening monologue Wednesday night ostensibly aimed at Mitt Romney and his embrace of elitist, corporate-driven conservatism, Carlson quickly shifted his attention to his belief that liberals and the ruling class were to blame for the destruction of black inner-city families due to the implementation of social programs. And that we are now seeing the same thing occurring in white rural communities.

“In many ways, rural America now looks like Detroit,” the conservative commentator said. “This is striking because rural Americans wouldn’t seem to have very much in common with anyone from the inner city. The groups have different cultures, different traditions, different political beliefs. Usually, they have different skin colors. Rural people are white conservatives, mostly. Yet the pathologies of modern rural America are familiar to anyone who visited downtown Baltimore in the 1980s — stunning out-of-wedlock birth rates, high male unemployment. A terrifying drug epidemic. Two different worlds, similar outcomes.”

But it wasn’t just the liberal elite that had created this dystopian America, per Tucker. No. It was women bringing in higher earnings. See, according to the primetime cable news host, men who make less money than women turn to drugs, alcohol and crime because women turn their backs on them.

“Manufacturing, a male-dominated industry all but disappeared over the course of a generation,” Tucker declared. “All that remained in many places were the schools and the hospitals, and both of them are traditional employers of women. In many areas, women suddenly made more than men.”

He continued, “Now, before you applaud that as a victory for feminism, consider some of the effects. Study after study has shown that when men make less than women, women generally don’t want to marry them. Maybe they should want to marry them, but they don’t. Over big populations, this causes a drop in marriage, a spike in out-of-wedlock births and all the familiar disasters that inevitably follow.”

And he wasn’t done.

“More drug and alcohol abuse, higher incarceration rates, fewer families formed in the next generation,” Carlson exclaimed. “This is not speculation, it’s not propaganda from the evangelicals. It’s social science. We know it’s true. Rich people know it best of all, that’s why they get married before they have kids. That model works.”

After railing against corporate feminists like Sheryl Sandberg, Carlson went on to go full Jeff Sessions — one of Tucker’s personal heroes — by decrying the legalization and increased use of marijuana in the country, claiming that our leaders are looking to get rich off of the substance while “our boys” are becoming “passive, flat, trapped in their own heads.”

This is far from the first time that Tucker has grumbled about feminism and claimed that men in America are in decline. During Women’s History Month last year, he devoted a series to “Men in America” in which he decried the ways men were losing while women were women in this country. At one point, he stated that “women are winning, “men are failing” and the “patriarchy is gone.”
