Watch: Trevor Noah Says The Second Amendment Is Not For Black People In Passionate Speech On Shootings

Trevor Noah discussed the death of Emantic Bradford Jr. on last night’s Daily Show. Bradford was an innocent man, killed by police in Alabama when he was mistaken for a mass shooter. The shooter is still at large. Bradford was armed – as Noah put it, he was ‘a good guy with a gun.’

“How does this shit keep happening?” Trevor Noah asked. “The cops are called into a situation. They see a black person. And then immediately they shoot.”

“Even if we work within a world where the police truly believed he was the shooter, how many times have we seen a shooter who is white and a man get talked down?” Noah said.

He pointed to examples of white shooters who were taken alive and argued that often when white shooters die, it’s because they shoot themselves. Noah criticized the ‘shoot now, ask questions later’ attitude of police towards black people.

“By the looks of it, it looks like this guy was a ‘good guy with a gun,'” Noah said, echoing language often used by gun rights advocates. “That’s what they always say, that the ‘good guy with a gun’ stops the crime.”

But, Noah said, if the good guy “happens to be a black ‘good guy with a gun’ they don’t get any of the benefits.”

“[T]he Second Amendment is not intended for black people,” Noah said. “It’s an uncomfortable thing to say, but it’s the truth.”

“If you’re a black person in America, gun rights are not for you. It’s as simple as that,” Noah said. “It’s some bullshit, but it’s true. The Second Amendment was not made for black folks.”
