MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt: The President Has Been ‘Trumping It Up’ Since The Midterms

Ahead of the midterm elections, President Donald Trump noted in an interview that he regretted not using a “softer tone,” days after he told reporters that he could “tone it up” after he was asked whether he’d “tone down” his rhetoric in the wake of Trump superfan mailing out over a dozen pipe bombs to prominent critics of the president.

With Democrats handily taking back the House and several GOP-held governors’ seats, the president has only gotten more unhinged and angry. Tuesday saw POTUS spend the day rage-tweeting from the White House about the Florida recount, his highly-ridiculed decision to not attend a WWI memorial ceremony due to rain, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

At the top of Tuesday’s MTP Daily, guest host Kasie Hunt discussed the president’s temperament within the context of the recent elections, noting that it both hurt Republicans during the midterms and that it is only getting worse following bad results.

Pointing out that many of the races that Trump involved himself in turned out bad for the GOP, Hunt then explained that this should have been a lesson to the president. But it was a lesson not learned, apparently.

“But the president is clearly not reading the midterm results as a mandate to tone it down because he’s trumping it up,” she stated. “Today he mocked and belittled one of our closest allies.”

Hunt added, “It’s been one week since the election and the president lashed out at an ally. He’s trying to undermine the election in Florida, he fired attorney general, replacing him with a Mueller critic, being denounced in court and he may be about to oust his chief of staff and homeland security secretary. His White House decision to revoke a press pass will be in court today. I think we can go on and on. The president’s temperament, impulsiveness, and personal vendettas look like they might create very real long-term problems for his presidency.”
