Trish Regan To Guest: You Know About Sexual Assault, Tell Us About Jim Acosta ‘Wrestling’ That Woman

Hours after CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta and President Donald Trump once again had a contentious exchange at a press conference, the administration decided to suspend Acosta’s press credentials and ban him from the White House. In announcing the decision, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders accused Acosta of assaulting a White House staffer who tried to grab the microphone from him, basically echoing a right-wing media talking point that had gained steam throughout the day.

Following Acosta’s White House ban, Fox Business host Trish Regan turned her righteous indignation up all the way to eleven as she claimed Acosta manhandled the young intern and asked one guest what her reaction was to Acosta’s since she has a “background in sexual assault.”

After discussing Acosta with Fox contributor and ex-Trump campaign adviser David Bossie, Regan turned to trial attorney Misty Marris to talk about the firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. However, before they could get to that real bit of news, Regan needed her opinion on the CNN reporter.

“Misty, I know that you also have a background, and I don’t mean to spring this on you last minute, in sexual assault cases, etc.,” Regan stated. “What’s your reaction to that video that we saw there where Jim Acosta is sort of wrestling this young White House intern to keep the microphone? And we just learned moments ago he’s no longer going to be able to have his reporting pass to be there at the White House. What do you say about that?”

Marris exclaimed that she was “hoping” they would have an opportunity to talk about it before calling his actions “unprecedented” and “inappropriate.” She also noted that he deserved to be banned and he needed to apologize to the young woman immediately.

While Fox and the White House are painting Acosta as a violent out-of-control woman beater, many of his fellow White House reporters are coming to his defense and pushing back on the unfair characterization of the exchange.

Reuters’ Jeff Mason pointed out that he didn’t witness Acosta placing his hands on the staffer, providing a series of photos showing Acosta was just holding onto the mic as she reached for it.

And White House Correspondents Association president Olivier Knox released a statement demanding the White House to reverse course and reinstate Acosta’s access:

And CNN fired back as well, saying Sanders “lied” and tossed out “fraudulent accusations.”

Meanwhile, Regan — who received plaudits not too long ago for defending Acosta after Trump insulted him — devoted a large portion of her primetime broadcast to bashing Acosta, including an interview with White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.
