‘This Is My Show!’ MSNBC’s Katy Tur Blows Up At Erick Erickson During Discussion On Civility

When will news shows stop treating Erick Erickson like some reasonable moderate who is an expert on political civility?

With pipe bombs being mailed to prominent Democrats — including two ex-presidents — and CNN’s New York offices, all of whom have been frequent targets of President Trump, the conservative pundit was brought on MSNBC this afternoon to discuss whether Trump’s heated political rhetoric played any part in the bomb scare. And this eventually resulted in a frustrated Katy Tur exploding at Erickson.

Erickson, fresh off spreading conspiracy theories and personally attacking liberals during the Kavanaugh confirmation, noted that “both sides” were to blame for promoting and encouraging violence. When asked if Trump should try to be a unifier instead of a divider, the one-time NeverTrump Republican basically did the shrug emoji while bringing up instances of conservatives being threatened.

“I think it’s clear when talking about this toxic political environment that it did start with mostly with Donald Trump in 2015,” Turn noted. ” he began his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists. He repeatedly cheered on crowd chanting ‘Lock her up!’ for Hillary Clinton.”

Erickson interjected by misrepresenting an old Barack Obama quote about bringing a gun to a knife fight and continued to talk over Tur, causing her to lose her cool and demand that he be quiet for a moment.

“Erick, let me finish — this is my show,” she forcefully said while pointing her finger at the screen. “Have you ever heard a politician other than Donald Trump say I’m so proud, or give a kudos to another politician who bodyslammed a reporter. Have you heard that from anybody else other than Donald Trump?”

Fellow panelist Donna Edwards briefly jumped in, thinking the question was for her before the MSNBC host explained that she wanted Erickson to answer. The Resurgent editor responded by saying Trump was a “symptom” before mocking Tur by saying the mention of Trump has her “blood pressure going up.”

“My blood pressure is going up because he advocates for violence,” she shot back. Eventually, Erickson invoked the Congressional Baseball shooting while stating, yes, “both sides are to blame.”

“If you’re going to say it’s Donald Trump is you’ll have 50% of the country say she’s not interested in a solution,” he concluded. “I think both sides have to step back.”

“I think everybody needs to take responsibility for their own actions, ” Tur responded. “But to say…that the bar did not get demonstrably lowered when Donald Trump started running for office is just not true and it’s offensive.”

In the end, you know how Tur could have avoided getting frustrated and blowing up on TV? By not inviting Erickson on and giving him a platform as some kind of civility expert, that’s how.
