Fox Outdraws CNN And MSNBC Combined Last Week, CNN Finishes Outside Of Top 10

Fox News continued its dominance in the cable ratings as it led basic cable in total day viewership for the 41st straight week while finishing in the top five in primetime. Meanwhile, both CNN and MSNBC finished outside the top five in primetime, with CNN placing out of the top 10 in both total day and primetime.

According to Nielsen, FNC averaged 2.606 million total viewers and 478,000 in the key 25-54 demographic during the primetime 8 PM to 11 PM hours in the week of October 15th. MSNBC attracted 1.466 million viewers overall and 247,000 in the demo. CNN pulled in a total audience of 850,000 and 252,000 in the key demo.

In total day, Fox drew a total viewership of 1.512 million and 288,000 in the demographic. MSNBC captured 836,000 total viewers and 139,000 in the demo. CNN grabbed 171,000 demo viewers and a total audience of 609,000.

As you can see from those numbers, Fox News outdrew CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewership in both primetime and total day. CNN finished 13th among basic cable networks in primetime and 11th in total day. MSNBC placed fourth in total day and sixth in primetime.

MSNBC also suffered through its lowest total day demo of the year last week and saw its Headliners documentary on Jerry Brown attract few viewers as it pulled in only a total audience of 526,000 and 82,000 in the demo on Sunday night.

Over on the business networks, Fox Business defeated CNBC in total business day viewership, attracting 213,000 to CNBC’s 183,000. FBN also saw the launch of new 8 PM program Trish Reagan Primetime, which pulled in the network’s best ever week in the time slot while beating CNBC’s replays of Shark Tank/American Greed in total viewership, 209,000 to 201,000. (CNBC did easily lead the time slot’s demo, however, 70,000 to 25,000.)
