Soledad O’Brien To Andrew Sullivan: Your Message That White Men Are Aggrieved Is ‘Bullshit!’

During a fairly heated moment on Friday night’s Real Time with Bill Maher, former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien tangled with New York writer-at-large and conservative political commentator Andrew Sullivan over the current social and political climate, specifically amid Brett Kavanaugh’s contentious Supreme Court confirmation. The end result was O’Brien calling out Sullivan for his “bullshit.”

After Sullivan defended Kavanaugh’s explosively angry performance at last Thursday’s hearing by stating that he was genuinely upset because he was accused of something he didn’t believe happened, he went on to bash the media for portraying Kavanaugh as a “gang rapist.” Host Bill Maher then interjected, stating that Democrats may have helped Kavanaugh and Republicans by digging too deep into Kavanaugh’s past.

“There are social justice warriors who are crazy enough in this country’ Maher claimed. “I fight with them all the time, who — they lend enough credence to this to make people think, ‘Oh, you know what? They’re going to go after my high school record — that’s fair game now.’ And it becomes sort of a privacy thing,”

Sullivan latched onto that argument and added that the Democrats and “the mainstream media made this not about Brett Kavanaugh, but all white men.” As O’Brien sighed, Sullivan further argued that the media generally painted all white men as “wannabe rapists” and “the problem.”

“I feel sorry for you,” O’Brien interrupted. “Because you’re a victim! Clearly, you’re a victim!”

As Sullivan continued to claim that the media was using the case of Kavanaugh to paint all white men as evil, O’Brien shot back that it was “absolutely not true,” pointing out that “everybody did not say that.”

“I feel sad for you — you’re breaking my heart,” she exclaimed after Sullivan said there was a wave of coverage about white male privilege. “That is absolutely untrue and I understand that you’re message is that somehow white men are aggrieved here in America — it’s bullshit! It’s just not true!”

While Sullivan asserted that he was not saying that, Maher jumped in to give his own take on the situation as he said he was bored with the argument. This then turned into Maher claiming that the #MeToo movement has “morphed from, ‘Listen to any woman who says she’s been wronged,’ which is the right thing to do, to ‘automatically believe.’”

“That’s scary, he concluded.

  1. You know,it’s time that our white brothers realized that the rest of us have wearied of tip-toeing around their discomfort. Think about the discomfort of the First Americans. After all the centuries, many of them are still suffering from the lies and policies developed by our white brothers. It’s time that we are reminded that when we pledge to this country, we are promoting liberty and justice FOR ALL. So quit whining and reflect that karma comes back. Straighten up and check yourselves.
