The Nomination Of Brett Kavanaugh Is America’s 4th Corrupt Bargain

A recap of recent weeks of bad news for President Trump must include that he is threatened with deposition by Michael Avenatti, the state of New York is delving deep into his con man business career and American mafia family, his nondisclosure protection from the National Enquirer has ended leaving him vulnerable to salacious revelations of his unEvangelical private life, and Bob Mueller is stalking him with an ominously looming obstruction of justice report and suspected sealed co-conspirator indictments for his plethora of crimes within the umbrella term of Russian collusion.

Trump’s legal team is delaying court proceedings on all fronts as much as possible while Rudy Giuliani distracts the public opinion on obstruction in the theatre of cable news, but the fact is that Mr. Trump has obstructed justice over and over in televised interviews and on Twitter, and his public actions via his various firings and executive threats are too contradictory for Trump to agree to be interviewed by Mueller in person or even answer the FBI’s questions in writing.

Bob Woodward’s topical new book, besides detailing how nearly everyone around Trump thinks he’s mentally insufficient for the job, relates how his lawyer John Dowd (before quitting) protested to Mueller—successfully it appears—that Trump is so much an idiot and liar that making Trump record potentially leakable sworn statements of innocence is essentially a national security threat because foreign countries would learn how much of a birdbrain the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Armed Forces is… yikes.

Trump’s only hope is a get-out-of-jail card in the form of his complicitly spineless and low-T Republican Party collaborators ramming through the asterisk Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who conveniently has a long political and judicial record of opportunistic partisan hackery and, even more conveniently, a rare and personally hypocritical judicial theory that Presidents are above the law. Mr. Trump has a wildly public habit of demanding loyalty pledges and nondisclosure agreements, and there are good betting odds Brett Kavanaugh signed both for his Supreme Court seat.

It is the only escape route for Trump, who knows indictments are coming his way. Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh is America’s 21st Century Corrupt Bargain: Republicans get a partisan hack to maintain a conservative Supreme Court slant Americans have voted against in 6 of the last 7 presidential elections, Donald Trump gets a judge who thinks there is no crime too felonious for which a sitting president can be indicted, and Brett Kavanaugh gets to be on America’s highest court. It’s win-win-win, but American democracy loses.

Let’s all welcome Brett Kavanaugh into the historical company of the election of 1824, the election of 1876, and the Ford pardon of Richard Nixon!
