Trump Heads To His Golf Course During John McCain’s Memorial Service

After spending the morning tossing out Fox News quotes and threats to Canada on Twitter as hundreds of lawmakers and dignitaries gathered at Washington’s National Cathedral for Sen. John McCain’s memorial service, President Donald Trump tossed on a white polo and MAGA ballcap and headed over to his gold club in Virginia to get 18 holes in.

According to White House correspondents, Trump arrived at Trump National Golf Club at 11:15 AM ET, which was right as former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was wrapping up his remarks and just before former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama delivered their eulogies.

Prior to his death, McCain made a point not to invite Trump — who he had a very strained relationship with — to his memorial services. In the president’s stead, Defense Secretary James Mattis, Chief of Staff John Kelly, and National Security Adviser John Bolton represented the administration at Saturday’s service. Trump daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner were also in attendance.

During yesterday’s service on Capitol Hill, Vice President Mike Pense attended and delivered remarks.

While traveling to the golf course Saturday morning, POTUS found time to shoot off a couple of tweets warning Congress not to interfere with the current NAFTA trade negotiations or he will terminate the trade agreement completely.

As the Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey noted, most members of Congress likely didn’t see that tweet because, y’know, they were at McCain’s funeral.

During her eulogy at the memorial service, McCain’s daughter Meghan took some not-so-subtle shots at Trump, saying “the America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.”
