S.E. Cupp Gets Emotional After Meghan McCain Breaks Down At Ceremony: ‘My Heart Is Broken For Her’

While CNN provided live coverage of a ceremony at the Arizona State Capitol in which the late Senator John McCain’s casket was placed in the rotunda to lie in state, CNN political commentator S.E. Cupp struggled to maintain her composure as she talked about her close friend, McCain’s daughter Meghan.

After Meghan McCain — a co-host of daytime talk show The View — was seen breaking down in front of her father’s casket, anchor Wolf Blitzer turned to Cupp for her reaction, noting that the two women are very close and that this has to be a “sad moment” for Cupp.

“My heart is broken for her,” the Unfiltered host said, fighting back tears. “She is, as anyone who knows her will tell you, the strongest person I know. And she has been such a pillar of strength through this very, very difficult year.”

She continued, her voice cracking, “She has spent countless hours alone with her father. She’s had to cancel adventures with us and vacations with us because she wanted to be home because she was told he was better when she was there. And so I am heartbroken for her.”

The conservative commentator concluded by stating that her heart is with Meghan right now and that she was her father’s “touchstone” while he was her “rock.”
