GOP Congressman Duncan Hunter Arrives At Courthouse To Chants Of ‘Lock Him Up’

Two days after he and his wife were indicted on 60 counts of misusing $250,000 of campaign funds for personal expenditures, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) — one of the first sitting members of Congress to endorse Donald Trump — arrived at a California courthouse to be arraigned. And the Trump-boosting lawmaker got a bit of a karmic welcome upon his arrival

“Lock him up,” protesters shouted as Hunter walked into the San Diego federal courthouse, repurposing the infamous anti-Hillary chant from Trump’s campaign rallies.

Besides the “lock him up” chants, folks outside the court were heard yelling “shame” at Hunter over the indictments.

Per the Associated Press, Hunter and his wife Margaret both pleaded not guilty to the charges and were given relatively low bonds of $15,000 and $10,000, respectively. Prosecutors said they were okay with the low bail amounts due to the couple living paycheck to paycheck.

Hunter, in a Trumpian turn, has decried the indictments as coming from the “new Department of Justice,” calling it “the Democrats’ arm of enforcement.” He added that the DOJ is a “politically motivated group of folks” while playing victim, stating there is “nothing illegal about being poor” to explain why he had overdrawn his personal bank accounts over 1,100 times in the past few years.

Meanwhile, the indictment shows the congressman using his campaign funds to pay for vacations, a plane ticket for the family’s pet rabbit, rounds of golf, and tons and tons of alcohol.

Hunter is the second member of Congress in the past few weeks to be indicted on federal charges. The other one? Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY), the first congressman who endorsed Trump, who was indicted on insider trading charges.
