New Poll: 56% Of Americans Think Trump Tried To Interfere In Mueller Probe

A new CNN poll claims that 56% of Americans believe that President Donald Trump tried to interfere in Robert Mueller investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. President Trump and his allies will take little comfort from the new findings, which show most Americans have an unfavorable view of the president.

The poll found that 55% of respondents disapprove of Trump’s handling of the Russia investigation. Just 34% approve of Trump’s behavior towards Russian interference. This figure does not bode well for Trump’s attempts to curtail the probe.

Approval for Robert Mueller is high at 47%, with 39% disapproving of his behavior. These are strong numbers for Mueller, though he needs no public approval to continue the investigation. Trump will not be pleased by the public’s continued support for the investigation.

Most respondents also believe that Trump lied about the Russia investigation, with 56% saying his statements on the issue are ‘mostly or completely false.’ The poll also contains good news for Democrats in the upcoming midterms, with nearly 80% of Democrats saying the Russia investigation will influence their vote.

Interestingly, 66% of respondents would like the Mueller probe to end by the November midterms. This does not mean, however, that most Americans want the investigation to just go away. As the other figures indicate, most respondents believe the investigation has substance. It is likely Democrats want the probe to end successfully and lead to prosecutions, while Republicans may still believe it is a ‘witch hunt.’

Though the vast majority of Americans want the probe to end, most also believe Mueller is doing his job adequately and don’t believe the President has behaved properly.
