Trump: Being Presidential Is Easy, What I Do Is Hard

President Donald Trump was in full campaign mode yesterday as he addressed a rally in Tampa, Florida. As midterm elections approach, Trump is trying to rile up his base and prevent the ‘blue wave’ of Democratic election victories that many commentators are predicting.

The President spoke to a crowd of his supporters in what a CNN columnist suggested was a sort of ‘greatest hits’ form of campaigning. Trump said he liked to be a ‘little wild, have a little fun.’

President Trump revisited many of the hallmarks of his 2016 campaign during Tuesday night’s rally, including attacking veteran Senator John McCain, who is still suffering from cancer. Trump also claimed it was OK to say ‘Merry Christmas’ again thanks to his administration.

Trump was also keen to compare himself to one of the country’s most presidential leaders: Abraham Lincoln. Though ‘the Party of Lincoln’ has struggled to deal with Trump’s bombastic personality, Trump has no problem comparing himself to the president who freed the slaves.

“Polls are fake, just like everything else. We are doing well, we are doing well and I’m happy you are doing well,” Trump said. “They just came out with a poll, did you hear? The most popular person in the history of the Republican Party is trumped! Can you believe this?”

“So I said does that include honest Abe Lincoln? He was pretty good, right? Remember I said we might be a little bit wild, they say he’s not acting presidential and I would say it’s a lot easier to act presidential than to do what I do. Anybody can act presidential.”

There is no evidence that Trump is the most popular Republican president in US history. President Ronald Reagan enjoyed immense popularity by the end of his term, while opinion polls did not exist when Lincoln was president in the 1860s.
