Rudy Giuliani Justifies Calling Michael Cohen ‘Honorable’ In May: ‘I Didn’t Know Him Well’

Last week brought the bombshell news that former Trump attorney and fixer Michael Cohen is willing to tell Special Counsel Robert Mueller that President Donald Trump knew in advance about the infamous 2016 Trump Tower meeting to gather dirt on Hillary Clinton from the Russians. Following that report, current Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani dismissed it outright by saying Cohen lacked any credibility because he has “lied all his life.”

Following Giuliani’s trashing of Cohen’s honesty, it was quickly noted that just a couple of months ago the former New York City mayor had commended the longtime Trump confidant as an “honest, honorable lawyer” and just a few weeks ago he said he didn’t “expect that Michael Cohen is going to lie.” Appearing on Fox News Sunday this morning, Giuliani was immediately confronted by anchor Chris Wallace over his flip-flop.

After playing a clip of Giuliani praising Cohen’s honesty, Wallace asked America’s Mayor “what happened,” causing Giuliani to offer up a full-throated justification.

“I found that he was surreptitiously recording his clients, which is a discoverable offense,” Giuliani declared. “I would say he was a scoundrel.”

After bringing up a situation in which Cohen recorded a conversation with CNN’s Chris Cuomo to reinforce his new belief that Cohen can’t be trusted, Giuliani then insisted the man who had been Trump’s right-hand man for years and years was someone he didn’t know all that well.

“Unfortunately for my client’s point of view, many, many hours of tape and the man is a pathological manipulator, liar,” he exclaimed. “I didn’t know that. I didn’t know him well but I knew nothing bad about Michael Cohen until all of this started to happen in the last couple weeks.”

So there you go. Giuliani, who claims he has been close to Trump for a long time, is now saying Trump’s closest confidant for over a decade is someone he was largely unaware of until recently.
