Over Half Of American Voters Believe Russia Has Something On President Trump

The numbers are in following the fallout from President Donald Trump’s disastrous Helsinki trip, and they definitely don’t look good for the president.

According to a new Quinnipiac poll that was conducted entirely after the summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, 51 percent of American voters feel the Russians have compromising information on Trump compared to 35 percent who do not. The president made headlines around the world when he sided with Putin over the American intelligence community on Russian election interference.

Unsurprisingly, a large majority of Republicans (70 percent) don’t believe Russia has kompromat on the president, but it isn’t as overwhelming as one would think and 18 percent of GOP voters think Trump is compromised by the Russians.

The poll does find that more than half of respondents (54 percent) agree with the president that both Russia and the United States share the blame for the poor relationship between the two countries. Only four percent place the blame on the U.S. while 38 percent say it is Russia’s fault.

Regarding the Helsinki summit itself, only 27 percent feel it was a success for the United States compared to 54 percent who believe it was a failure. Meanwhile, 73 percent say Russia could claim success in the meeting. 54 percent also believe that Trump was not acting in America’s interests at the summit.

It would appear that poor marks from the Russia meeting and the belief among voters that Trump sold out America caused the president’s job approval numbers to drop. Quinnipiac’s June 20 survey showed the president with a 43 percent rating. Now, only 38 percent of voters approve of Trump’s performance compared to 58 percent who disapprove.
