Howard Kurtz Addresses Guilfoyle’s Fox News Departure: There Were ‘Tensions’ Behind The Scenes

Late last week, Fox News announced that longtime host and commentator Kimberly Guilfoyle had parted ways with the network. This came on the heels of reports that Guilfoyle was leaving Fox News to work for the pro-Trump Super PAC America First and hit the campaign trail with her boyfriend, presidential son Donald Trump Jr.

Based on the terse bare-bones statement released by the network Friday afternoon in announcing the news, it seemed apparent to most that it was far from an amicable separation, especially since the statement didn’t include the standard well-wishes and acknowledgment of Guilfoyle’s accomplishments in her twelve years at Fox that one usually expects with these announcements.

In a short segment on Fox News’ MediaBuzz Sunday morning, media analyst Howard Kurtz confirmed that Guilfoyle’s departure from the network was not smooth sailing. After pointing out that the situation surrounding Guilfoyle’s role with Fox News became “more complicated” in the weeks after she started dating Don Jr., Kurtz noted that she was heading to America First.

“I can report that Guilfoyle views this move as a rare opportunity,” he said, noting that Guilfoyle and Trump Jr. have told friends that “marriage could be in their future.”

“But behind the scenes, there have been tensions as lawyers on both sides have tried to negotiate the issues surrounding her departure,” the MediaBuzz host added.

Kurtz, however, did not expand on what exactly the tensions were, instead ending the segment by saying he wishes Guilfoyle “all the best.”

Notably, Fox News placed the clip addressing the Guilfoyle matter on its website Sunday.
