Fox’s Melissa Francis In Disbelief After Trump Says Russia’s No Longer Targeting US: ‘It Sounds Insane’

Two days after his disastrous presser in Helsinki in which he sided with Russian President Vladimir Putin and a day after the ludicrous cleanup attempt in which he blamed a “double negative,” President Donald Trump once again doubted the assessment of his intelligence agencies while pushing Putin’s talking points. Speaking to the press Wednesday, Trump said that he doesn’t believe Russia is still targeting America to interfere in elections, directly contradicting Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats.

Immediately after the president made his comments, the folks at Fox News’ Outnumbered discussed what Trump had just said — which also included him stating no president has ever been tougher on Russia than him — leading co-host Melissa Francis to express disbelief.

Francis, who earlier this week defended Trump’s Helsinki performance, first wanted to know if she actually heard Trump say that Russia is no longer targeting U.S. elections. After Harris Faulkner confirmed the president did indeed say that, Francis exclaimed: “Which sounds…insane?!”

The Fox News personality then began to workshop the possibility that maybe the president meant the United States “is stopping the meddling at this point,” causing @OneLuckyGuy Jake Maccoby to note they were now “working really hard to make this sound reasonable.”

“No, no, no, no” Francis responded. “I’m not working hard to make it sound reasonable because it doesn’t sound remotely reasonable. And I’m not trying to say it sound reasonable.”

She continued, “It sounds insane. I’m only saying he could be saying that we are now stopping it. But to deny that Russia is trying to meddle forever, and has been forever, would be totally insane!”

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is holding her first press briefing in weeks, so just toss this latest controversial Trump remark on the pile of shit that Sanders will attempt (or not) to clean up.
