Fox’s Dana Perino: Louie Gohmert Attacking Peter Strzok ‘Felt Like A Public Lynching’

Embattled FBI agent Peter Strzok endured nearly ten hours of questioning on Capitol Hill Thursday, with much of that time devoted to House Republicans playing to the cameras and taking turns expressing their outrage over Strzok’s anti-Trump texts. Perhaps the most memorable exchange of the hearing belonged to Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), who caused his Democratic colleagues to blow up when he invoked the FBI agent’s affair with lawyer Lisa Page.

Reacting to the all-day spectacle, Fox News host and former Bush White House Press Secretary Dana Perino criticized Gohmert and other Republicans for taking things too far during the marathon hearing. She also suggested that perhaps we shouldn’t televise Congressional hearings so as to stop this level of grandstanding.

The Five co-host first noted that some Democrats were over-the-top in their attempts to portray Strzok as a sympathetic figure.

“I did think it was quite odd that you had the one congressman on the Democratic side said he wanted to give Peter Strzok a Purple Heart — which is outrageous,” she said. “That’s disgusting, actually.”

Then she lit into the GOP members who made a sideshow of Thursday’s proceedings.

“Several Republicans — including Louie Gohmert, I will say — went way overboard,” Perino declared. “It felt like a public lynching.”

She continued, “I thought it was terrible. You know what they should do with these hearings, and I know we are on television so maybe we don’t want to say this — they should not be on camera.”
