Maddow Number One Cable News Program In Key Demo On Friday

While Fox News continued to dominate the cable news spectrum in both total day and primetime ratings, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show was able to burst through and lead all cable news programs in the key 25-54 demographic on Friday.

According to Nielsen, Fox News drew 2.521 million total viewers and 423,000 in the demo during the 8 PM to 11 PM primetime hours. MSNBC placed second in both metrics, averaging 1.649 million viewers overall and 319,000 in the demographic. CNN attracted a demo audience of 185,000 and 643,000 total viewers.

In total day, FNC pulled in a total viewership of 1.544 million and 308,000 in the demo. MSNBC captured a demo audience of 194,000 and 906,000 viewers overall. CNN nabbed 508,000 total viewers and 151,000 in the 25-54 demographic.

Maddow averaged 453,000 in the demo to lead the cable news landscape while placing fourth in total viewers with 2.325 million. Fox’s Hannity — which was guest-hosted by Judge Jeanine Pirro — led cable news in total viewership (2.747 million) and was a close second in the demo (451,000). FNC’s Tucker Carlson Tonight was second overall in total audience (2.451 million) and fifth in the key demographic (418,000).

Fox’s The Five placed third in the demo (439,000) and fifth in total viewers (2.317 million). Despite being a morning show, the 8 AM hour of Fox & Friends placed fourth in the demo with 432,000 viewers.

The most-watched CNN program on Friday was the 9 PM broadcast of Cuomo Prime Time, which pulled in 736,000 total viewers. Erin Burnett OutFront led the network in the demographic with 230,000.
