Meghan McCain: How Does WH Aide Who Joked About My Father Dying Still Have Job?

On Thursday, it was reported that White House special assistant Kelly Sadler joked during a meeting that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was “dying anyway” in response to McCain’s opposition to Gina Haspel’s nomination for CIA director. This report came on the heels of Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney (Ret.) claiming torture “worked” on McCain, parroting a long-debunked claim that the former POW was known as “Songbird John” because he gave up useful information and collaborated with his captors while held prisoner in Vietnam.

During Friday’s broadcast of The View, McCain’s daughter Meghan responded to both comments about her father, noting that the people making them were “nothing burgers” who won’t be remembered by anybody in the future while her dad’s legacy will live on for centuries.

Prior to trashing both folks’ remarks, McCain reacted to the Sadler story directly. At the top of the program, she told the audience to not “feel bad for me or my family — we’re really strong.”

After stating that there is “so much more love and prayer and amazing energy being generated towards us than anything negative at all,” Meghan said that Sadler should know that “we’re all dying. I’m dying, you’re dying, we’re all dying.”

“Since my dad has been diagnosed the past — almost a year. July 19th, I feel like I understand the meaning of life, and it is not how you die, it’s how you live,” she declared.

The View co-host then wondered aloud how Sadler still has a job after all of this.

“I don’t understand what kind environment you’re working when that would be acceptable and then you could come to work the next day and still have a job,” McCain said. “And that’s all I have to say about it.”

After The Hill broke the story on Thursday, Sadler called Meghan McCain to apologize for mocking Senator McCain. It reportedly did not go well.
