As Trump Feuds With Meryl Streep, Americans Ask: “Four Years Of This?”

Just 11 days before he will be sworn in as president, Donald Trump has attacked veteran actress Meryl Streep. Streep gave a speech at last night’s Golden Globes criticizing the president-elect’s behavior but not naming him. Trump reacted on Twitter.

“Meryl Streep, one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes,” Trump tweeted. “She is a Hillary flunky who lost big,”

Streep delivered an impassioned speech about a ‘performance’ that had stunned her, referring to Donald Trump’s sometimes theatrical presidential campaign. Streep highlighted Trump’s tendency to vilify others and referred directly to a rally where Trump mocked a disabled reporter.

“There was one performance this year that stunned me,” Streep said. “It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good. There was nothing good about it. But it was effective, and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth.”

It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.”

As Americans woke up to the news that the next president was using Twitter to attack a world famous actress, many are wondering if this behavior will continue throughout Trump’s presidency. Will President Trump spend the next four years sending angry tweets?
